Using LaTeX2e to Typeset
a University of Florida
Thesis or Dissertation

This web-site is devoted to solving the implementation issues of using LaTeX2e to typeset a University of Florida thesis or disseration that conforms to the Graduate School requirements. While the main topic will be the use of the ufthesis documentclass, other issues such as TeX platforms/Editors will eventually be covered.

I wrote the ufthesis documentclass while working on my Ph.D. at UF. Basically, the documentclass loads the standard LaTeX2e report class, and then uses other readily available style files to handle underlining and spacing requirements. I wanted to produce a documentclass that lets other users satisfy the Graduate School requirements with little additional effort. For example, the switching between single-spacing and double-spacing occurs automatically throughout the thesis with little or no intervention.

Eventually, I want this web-site to be a mega-resource for those using LaTeX2e at UF. I want to address issues such as using Emacs (with AucTeX and RefTeX), and other such topics related to using LaTeX. However, these things will take time to develop so please feel free to just grab a copy of the ufthesis documentclass and give it a try.

The ufthesis documentclass is available in compressed format as either ufthesis.tar.gz or ufthesis.zip. Uncompress either one of these files, and then follow the instructions in ufthesis.ins to obtain the documentclass files. The documentclass is distributed with documentation which is available as either fulldoc.pdf or shortdoc.pdf for your convenience.

This web-site and the distribution and maintenance of the ufthesis documentclass would not be possible without the assistance of Mr. Dave Blackman of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
